Children’s fashion became important in the decade of the 1920s. For the first time, children’s clothes were being made with them in mind rather than their parents. The trend in the way children’s clothes changed was much like their parents clothes in that they become easier to live and play in. Girls wore simpler dress, such as cotton frocks and cardigans. They wore shorter socks and their hair was cut shorter. Girls also, in the winter, wore long vests called liberty bodices. They wore more flowered and polka dotted patterns. Boys usually were seen in knee length trousers and knickers. They were wearing shorter shorts than the decade before. Suits were usually made of flannel or tweed and topped with a beret. Boys’ knee length socks were also replaced by stockings. Victorian lace up boots also became popular for boys. Babies also weren’t dressed in a lot of fabric. They wore practical clothes such as matinee jackets, romper suits, and also short dresses. Children’s fashions were following the trend of their elders as being simpler but they also stepped away from their elders as being more suitable for their own age.
